  • This was a great short trip to see lots of Morocco and get a sense of their culture, history and country. With lots to do, you will never be bored and will meet some lovely people along the way. This is a great way to be able to see a lot of Morocco in such a short space of time. A lot of it was well organised but I'd say that some of the information given by G Adventures either needs updated or given earlier.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the overall pace of the 'Morocco Kasbahs & Desert - 8 Days' tour?

  • What kind of accommodation can I expect on this trip?

You will stay in local hotels or pensions for seven nights. These accommodations may vary in standard and facilities; some may not have elevators, air-conditioning, or English-speaking staff. • What meals are included in the tour?

The tour includes 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch (a traditional tour operator-supported lunch), and 1 dinner (a traditional dinner on the desert night). Moroccan breakfasts are typically simple, often a croissant or sweet roll with jam and instant coffee. Lunches and dinners often feature local cuisine like couscous, tagine, and brochette, usually costing between 10-15 USD per meal if not included.

  • Who will be leading my tour group and what are their qualifications?

Your trip will be led by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO) throughout, along with a driver and local guides. The CEO is a group coordinator and manager with a broad general knowledge of Morocco, including its historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. They offer suggestions for activities, recommend local eating venues, and introduce you to local friends. Certified local city guides are also used for specific locations.
  • What kind of transportation is used during the tour?

Transportation between destinations and for included activities is primarily by a private air-conditioned 16-seater minivan. You will also experience authentic camel rides into the dunes. Please note that due to fast-paced travel and long days, legroom in the minivan may be limited, and air conditioning effectiveness can be reduced in very high summer temperatures (up to 50°C).
  • What currency should I use in Morocco and are credit cards widely accepted?

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). ATMs are very common, and Visa cards are the most widely accepted credit cards, generally useful for larger purchases. The Euro is the most commonly accepted foreign currency for exchange. It is advised not to rely solely on credit or debit cards, but to carry a combination of cash (Euros, GBP, or USD) and cards.
  • Is tipping customary in Morocco?

Tipping is a way of life in Morocco and is customary and expected for small service providers like waiters, hotel staff, taxis, and drivers. The tour operator uses a 'tipping kitty system' where your CEO collects a contribution from the group for these tips. Tipping your CEO at the end of the trip is also expected and appreciated, with a guideline of $8-11 USD per person per day.
  • What are the health considerations for this trip?

You are responsible for consulting your travel doctor for up-to-date medical travel information and any required inoculations before departure. Tour leaders are prohibited from administering any type of drug.
  • What is the dress code to respect local customs during the tour?

When visiting mosques and other religious monuments, you should dress modestly, covering your shoulders and avoiding short shorts or skirts. Outside of capital cities and more touristic centers, local dress is often more conservative. It is recommended that both men and women wear loose-fitting clothes with shoulders covered as a matter of respect.
  • Is there a recommended emergency fund for this trip?

Yes, it is recommended to have access to at least an additional USD $200 (or equivalent) as an emergency fund, for use in unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters that might require a change to the planned route.
  • How does solo travel work on this tour?

Solo travelers will be paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip, without incurring an extra single supplement fee. A 'My Own Room' option is available for an additional cost, but this option does not apply for Day 4 (Desert Camp).
  • Are there specific weather considerations for traveling to Morocco, especially in winter?

The climate in Morocco varies greatly. Summer months (April to September) are very hot. During winter months (November to March), temperatures can be cool to cold, especially in the Atlas Mountains, with a high probability of snowfall. Most Moroccan buildings are not equipped with heating, so warm clothing is essential for winter departures. It is advisable to bring a light sleeping sheet or sleeping bag for the desert camp during winter. If traveling between November and February, be aware that winter weather conditions in the mountains may introduce flexibility to the tour itinerary.
